VALE DO PARAÍSO

Vale do Paraíso is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Azambuja, with 4.44 km ² of area and 880 inhabitants (2011). Density: 198.2 hab/km ².

The parish of Vale do Paraíso was created in 1916, by detaching from Aveiras de Cima, has always been a land of good air and lush vegetation, with desired conditions.

This is the only way to understand that this humble village has been the residence of the King of Portugal Dom João II and has been the scene in the days 9, 10 and 11 March 1493 of the date of that monarch with the new world’s discoverer Christopher Columbus. – Mapa de Vale do Paraíso

CASA COLOMBO/ COLUMBUS HOUSE

Materializing a willingness and a desire that comes from the 90’s of the 20th century when it celebrated the 500 years of “Portuguese discoveries”, the municipality of Azambuja, particularly Vale do Paraíso parish woke up to the fact that in place have occurred the meeting between King John II and Christopher Columbus, the municipality of Azambuja passes to provide an infrastructure for historical interpretation of this important event.

The “Casa-Colombo” in Vale do Paraíso became, since April 2009, one of the first pioneering cultural infrastructure of interpretation and disclosure of one of the most important facts of the history of discovery – the discovery of the “new world” by Christopher Columbus and its consequences.

Focusing on the three days of March 1493 when Christopher Columbus and King John II conferred and lived in Vale do Paraíso, where King often visited, not for reasons of State for reasons of your state of mind and the feelings that you invaded his heart, the discovery of vision, interpretation and representation of the Ancient and Medieval World, to discover the scientific knowledge of the modern world and current.

Through an educational and cultural experience, we are led to revisit this human adventure of discovery of local and Global World, the social and cultural “memory” we call History.

Betting on new knowledge and making use of modern technological resources, the expository route offers for each time a range of pedagogical information complement, in the interactivity of the user content, promote so didactics and complement – another personal and rewarding experience, another gift idea and history as a future.
